Parent Organization: University of Wisconsin - Madison

Beta Alpha Psi was founded in 1919. Since, it was founded, 289 chapters on college and university campuses have been established. The chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (The Sigma Chapter) was founded in 1932. It is an honorary organization for both graduate and undergraduate accounting students. The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the accounting field. This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility. The Sigma Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi has several professional meetings, community service events, and social gatherings each semester.

Membership Requirements (for example GPA requirements, membership fees)

Pledges must meet the following requirements: GPA Requirements-- •Undergraduates enrolled in AIS 301: Have a 3.0 GPA in AIS 100. And either: 1. An overall GPA of 3.0, or 2. A 3.25 GPA on most recent 30 credits. (NOTE: To be in Beta Alpha Psi, you must receive a 3.0 GPA in AIS 301 and have declared accounting as a major.) •Undergraduates who have completed AIS 301: Have a 3.0 GPA in intermediate/advanced accounting courses (AIS 301-630). And either: 1. An overall GPA of 3.0, or 2. A 3.25 GPA on most recent 30 credits. •Graduates: Must be enrolled in a master’s degree level accounting program. Must have completed one graduate level accounting course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Have a 3.25 GPA in graduate level accounting courses. Other Pledge Requirements-- •Complete five community service hours. •Attend all professional meetings. •Take the pledge exam. •Pay $85.00 of dues on time. •Submit the pledge application on time. •Attend the initiation ceremony. Members must meet the following requirements: •Enrolled Member •Member in Good Standing Attend one professional meeting. Pay $40.00 of dues on time. Complete one community service hour. •Superior Member Pay $40.00 of dues on time. Complete three community service hours. ?And either: 1. Attend at least three professional meetings, or 2. Attend at least two professional meetings and chair a committee.
