Material Culture Focus Group - UW Madison
About
The Material Culture Focus Group serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas and research related to the study of objects, artifacts, cultural landscapes and the built environment. It brings together students and faculty from such diverse disciplines as Art History, Anthropology, History and Design Studies, and is loosely affiliated with the Material Culture Program at UW-Madison. The group’s primary goal is to be a resource for members: familiarizing them with current work in material culture studies, hosting an annual lecture series, sponsoring conferences and/or symposia, and establishing internships with local museums and organizations. Field trips and tours of places dedicated to material culture scholarship (i.e. Chipstone, vernacular art environments, and historical societies) also greatly enrich the experience of Material Culture Focus Group members.
