National Society of Collegiate Scholars - UW-Madison Chapter
About
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is an honors organization that recognizes outstanding academic achievement among students and encourages members to develop leadership skills through community service, professional development, and activism.
Founded in 1994, the Society has active chapters at more than 215 college and university campuses across the United States, including George Washington University, Princeton, UCLA, UC-Berkeley, University of Virginia, Howard University, U.S. Naval Academy, and Dartmouth, among others.
The UW-Madison chapter (our chapter) was founded in 1999, and has since been actively involved in service to our campus and local community, along with organizing university-wide scholastic and social activities. Every academic year since 2009-2010, the National Office has awarded our chapter Gold Star Status, an honor achieved by only 1/5 of all chapters. Furthermore, our annual Casino Night raised more than $1,000 to benefit The Ronald McDonald House in Spring 2010 and 2011. Our 2012 Casino Night saw us partnering with fellow student org. Slow Food UW to raise $1,000 for its environmental education programs. We also held a community-wide "Zumbathon" that raised over $1,000 for the UW Haiti Microfinance Project.
During the spring 2017 semester, our chapter partnered with NAMI and Project Heal to spread awareness and acceptance of mental illness. We organized a Stress Relief Night and raised over $200 to donate to Journey Mental Health Center. As an active member of the community, we will continue to select a new social issue each semester to spread awareness of and fundraise for.
