Parent Organization: University of Wisconsin - Madison
Student Emergency Medical Services offers its members opportunities to gain emergency medical knowledge by demonstrating EMS skills at each meeting and bringing in expert speakers in the field. SEMS also gives its members the chance to help develop and participate in outreach projects that are directly involved with educating the community in emergency medicine.
Student EMS offers its members American Heart Association certification in CPR for the healthcare provider and the ability to shadow the UW-Health EMS paramedics at men's football, hockey, and basketball games.
SEMS also offers its members the chance to be trained in emergency medicine by means of connecting them with various classes in the field. (CPR, CPR Instructor, First Responder, EMT-Basic, EMT-IV Tech, EMT-paramedic, etc.)
Membership Requirements (for example: GPA requirements, membership fees)
ACTIVE MEMBER REQUIREMENTS: You must attend 4 of the 6 meetings this semester. If you cannot make the meetings due to conflict, please let one of the board members know. Also, you must participate in at least 5 events. 2 of them must be volunteer and 1 must be social. The other 2 events are up to you. Even if you make the 5 events, we enjoy seeing you, so we encourage you to come to as many as you'd like! Lastly, you must have up-to-date CPR certification. If not, don't be concerned. We'll provide the certification through courses we teach throughout the semester! DUES: IF YOU HAVE CURRENT CPR CERTIFICATION: $15. If you are already certified in CPR by the American Heart Association or another organization (e.g. American Red Cross), then you are not required to re-certify until your card expires. When you bring a copy of your current certification card, you will only be required to pay a fee of $15 each semester to be an active member. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE CURRENT CPR CERTIFICATION: $30. To be an active member, you will need to pay a $30 membership fee, which includes the cost of one CPR course. We teach CPR through the American Heart Association. Upon completion of the course, we will give you your BLS Certification Card. To sign up for a class, your membership fee must be paid.
