Welcom to GEMS!

Our Mission

The mission of the Graduate Engineering Mechanics Society (GEMS) is to create an avenue for graduate students to share their research in a semi-formal, low-stakes environment with their peers, learn about research in other fields they may otherwise not hear about, and create a graduate student community across departments. This organization is designed to welcome first-years or new students and enable networking among graduate students to share similar research interests, advice, and resources during their academic program.

Designed with inclusivity in mind, GEMS opens its arms to students across all levels of study, particularly first-year students seeking to plunge into the exciting world of research. We aim to stimulate dynamic networking among graduate students, providing opportunities for them to share their research interests, exchange insightful advice, and pool resources throughout their academic journey.

What We Are Doing

We organize weekly GEMSeminar during the fall and spring semesters. These seminars provide students a stage to present their mechanics research and acquire constructive feedback from their peers. Our current research topics span solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, materials science, and biomechanics. We welcome related or novel topics of interest to enrich our community. If you seek to rehearse your group meeting, conference, preliminary exam, thesis defense, or simply wish to share intriguing findings, you’ve come to the right place.
