The Battery Team designs, builds, and optimizes the electrochemical power source that drives the ChemE Car. Throughout the year we research battery chemistries, fabricate and test cells, and analyze their performance to ensure the car produces reliable and predictable power during competition. Members gain hands-on experience with electrochemistry, battery characterization, and experimental design while learning how materials, reaction conditions, and geometry influence battery performance. In addition to developing our competition battery, we explore and evaluate different propulsion technologies to identify new systems that could enhance our future ChemE Car designs. No prior experience is required—we'll teach you everything from battery fundamentals to laboratory techniques. Whether your interests lie in electrochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or you simply want to build something exciting, we'd love to have you join the Battery Team!
